Lake of the Woods Outdoorsman March 2016 – Lake Trout and Sturgeon Fishing

By Jean-Paul Tessier Leave a Comment Apr 5 0

Welcome back to another edition of the Lake of the Woods Outdoorsman. We must say thank you to all those that have made this life possible.

The Lake Trout of Lake of the Woods has become this humble outdoorsman’s favorite ice fishing target species. The fight is in a class all by itself, and I’m hooked for life. This type of adventure is always enjoyed by our great group of friends.

The Sturgeon are the prehistoric dinosaurs sought by many on the Rainy River. If you’re lucky enough you might just get the chance to battle a fish that will make your arms hurt. There’s always lots of smiles while posing with a Sturgeon.

These are just a couple of the reason I call Lake of the Woods the greatest place on earth…Happy Fishing and God Bless.

February has been a multi species month for sure. Walleyes, Sauger, Eel Pout, Sturgeon, Crappie and Lake Trout have all seen the top of the ice, and all I have to say is, what a fishery we live on. Lake of the Woods is the greatest place on earth…

We hope you enjoy the adventures…Happy Fishing and God Bless.

Lake of the Woods Outdoorsman January 2016 – Ice Fishing

By Jean-Paul Tessier Leave a Comment Jan 31 0

Welcome back to the next addition of the Lake of the Woods Outdoorsman. Before I go any further, Jody and I would like to thank each and every person that has visited us this winter and given us the opportunity to take you fishing on our tremendous fishery, Lake of the Woods. It truly is because of you that we have this life, so we must say thank you.

This years ice fishing season has gotten off to a late start because of the warmer than usual December, but January cooled right down and it’s right where we want it. We’ve been catching lots and lots of Saugers and a few beautiful Waltergators out in the mud, just out from Pine Island. As Jody says, “What do we do in Northern Minnesota when it gets cold? We go Ice Fishing”.

Enjoy the adventures and thanks for watching…Happy Fishing and God Bless!

LOTW Outdoorsman Cast and Blast 2015

By Jean-Paul Tessier Leave a Comment Nov 2 0

Welcome back to the next adventures of the Lake of the Woods Outdoorsman and Friends. We must thank everyone that has given us the opportunity to live this lifestyle, it is truly a blessing to this humble outdoorsman and his family.

This past month has been an emotional roller coster for many of my friends, whom I call family. With the loss of Keith, Cody and Huggie, many of my closest friends have been directly impacted, many you haven’t seen on Facebook or in the media. I have seen them stand strong in the face of tragedy, as I’m sure the boys would have wanted. No one will know what truly happened that fateful evening, many will speculate, but none will have the answers we all search for. I call home to the waters that have taken my friends, and will run over that spot every day every summer and think of Keith, Cody and Huggie. I know now more than ever, it is not about what you say, it’s about how you live…RIP my friends.

Happy Fishing and God Bless…

Welcome back for this all Muskie episode of the Lake of the Woods Outdoorsman. This is just a peek into a few of the great Muskie fishing adventures I’ve had the blessing and honor to partake in so far this summer.

As Muskie fishing goes, we’ve seen some, we’ve lost some, we’ve caught some, we always learn from our experiences, good or bad. To quote my great friend G, “This is why we do it”…enjoy and as always, thanks for watching.

Happy Fishing and God Bless,

Welcome back to the Spring 2015 edition of the Lake of the Woods Outdoorsman. I’ve experience so many great adventures this Spring, and it became very difficult on what to include into this edition, but it’s finally done.

This Spring we fished for Walleyes, Sturgeon and Smallmouth Bass in the Rainey River and Largemouth Bass and Northern Pike north in Ontario. The new experiences drive my love for the outdoors more and more, I can’t wait to share the next adventures with you.

Happy Fishing and God Bless…

Lake of the Woods Outdoorsman Feb-March 2015 – Lake Trout and Northern Pike

By Jean-Paul Tessier Leave a Comment Apr 14 0

Welcome back to the next edition of the Lake of the Woods Outdoorsman. This winter was the most challenging for me yet…the Sleepers were full almost every day from December 26th through the middle of March. Thank you to everyone that kept us busy, and supported our humble business.

The two adventures which you’re about to see were my only opportunities to escape away to other areas of Lake of the Woods. Lakers have become a must do in February, and now every March I look forward to catching those Monster Pike on the the Bigtooth Tackle Zero Rig…Memories were made.

Until the next adventure…Happy Fishing and God Bless.

Lake of the Woods Outdoorsman January 2015

By Jean-Paul Tessier Leave a Comment Feb 10 0

Welcome back to for the January edition of the Lake of the Woods Outdoorsman. We must say thank you to all that have given us this opportunity to make a living doing what we love to do.

The best bite has been where you can find deep water and gravel bottom. Most of these spots are deep off the edge of the rock piles Lake of the Woods has up the US/Canadian Line, around Zipple Bay, Long Point, Rocky Point and Minnesota’s Northwest Angle. The glow green Blade Spoon by Clam was the hot lure of the month for this humble outdoorsman.

We hope you enjoy January’s adventures…Happy Fishing and God Bless.

Lake of the Woods Outdoorsman December 2014

By Jean-Paul Tessier Leave a Comment Jan 8 0

Welcome to the December edition of the Lake of the Woods Outdoorsman. We must say thank you to everyone that has given us the opportunity to share our tremendous back yard.

Jody’s mother Ellen visited us for a couple weeks and joined in on a few adventures in the sleeper houses. Being someone who grew up in Baudette, she couldn’t believe how the ice fishing had expanded from what she remembered back in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s.

Wiggles and I went on a few recon missions to find the fish, now that’s always an adventure. The best success right now is deep off the rock structures up the US/Canadian line. If you’re using Adrian’s Road, they’ve done a fantastic job smoothing out the first few miles till you meet the better ice. Bring your Ice Armor and Thermal X2, she’s cold out there…

Happy Fishing and God Bless,

Lake of the Woods Outdoorsman
